I had been skeptical about online dating, but became curious about it after two of my friends met their current spouses on a popular site. Initially, it was rough. I received a number of salacious inbox messages from strangers who inquired about my measurements without ever asking my name. I did get some respectful messages, and while they were sweet, they came from men old enough to be my father. Disheartened, I was just about to close my account, when I saw a profile that made me reconsider. There was warmth and an excitement in it that made me want to know more about him. Uncharacteristic of me, I messaged him and told him so. Soon after, he replied to return the compliment. From that point on, there has not been a day that we have not been in contact.
Is Online Dating Biblical?
Married with a gun-toting husband. I got to know a nice gal on OKC for a few weeks before we decided to meet up for a hiking date. She only wanted to communicate through email or the dating site -which I thought was odd but just went with it. For 90mins- I felt like a deer during hunting season on that hike. Every bush movement and twig snap I was sure was him…Fuck her for not coming clean before hand.
A man with a machete.
Why do I still get angry about my husband lying to me about his reasons for joining a dating site more then I get angry about him sleeping with some women he met on the site.
Anyway, if I see coworkers on dating sites, I think the polite thing to do is just ignore it and move along, so I was not super into the fact that this guy messaged me but I figured he was just being kind of socially obtuse. Dude, if you realized that, why did you message me anyway and tell me that? Anyway, see you Monday! I read and did not respond to the last message. Or would it be better to just block him and pretend it never happened?
It might be useful in general to know how to stop an inappropriate interaction like this in the future, so what would you have done? The awkwardness is in what people do about it. It was inevitable that streams would cross and one of us would bring a dude we were dating to a party and watch him slowly figure out where he knew the rest of us from…because if you liked one of us enough to write to you probably liked all of us…and that we all knew each other….

What a great story, gregsbabe! Is your DH’s name Greg perhaps? These are all great stories. My story – my first husband died, my two kids were 4 yrs old and 2 months old at the time. I said no, I was out of practice dating, and frankly, alittle scared. So, they took matters into their own hands, invited me to dinner, and him – without telling either one of us. Hmmm, sounds like a blind date to me!

Online dating is one of those subjects that Christians enjoy debating. In one camp, there are some who believe looking for love online betrays a lack of faith in God’s provision of a spouse. In their view, the seemingly endless lists of online profiles creates a superficial consumer mentality that undermines the sacrificial nature of Christ-centered love.
The other side counters that online dating is merely a tool God can use to bring two people together — users don’t place their faith in the matchmaking site, but in the Lord. What can be wrong with that? The arguments on both sides have merit.

Did you struggle with the idea of online dating? But I lived in a super small town, worked a lot, had chronic health problems, and am very introverted. My close friends — and even my parents — helped to convince me that attempting something online was only logical.
So I did, with great skepticism and my plans to write a book about the excruciatingly painful experience it was definitely going to be. On which site did you meet your spouse?
