You’ll wish you hadn’t been made aware of the movement Young men who struggle with finding romantic partners are finding solace in their shared experience with each other. They even have coined a term, “Incel” to describe their situation as being “involuntary celibate”. From Reddit to other online message boards, there is much sexual frustration and angst among this group. The Centers for Disease Control calculates Despite this being equally prevalent in both sexes, it is men who express the dissatisfaction, possibly due to skewed Western societal views that equate sex with masculinity, success, and relational happiness. Unfortunately, it doesn’t stop at frustration as it can lead to misogynistic views against women and even lead to violence. References to being romantically spurned by women and seeing themselves as “incels” is a commonality among recent deadly mass school shooters involving young men. Rodger killed six people and described his actions as vengeance against attractive women for denying him sex and affection. And Harper-Mercer was more direct in his online posts as a self-described “involuntary celibate” before he open fired and killed nine people.

Mar 26, 10 Wow what can I say I’ve never played a yakuza game before and the only reason I took interest into this game is because of Angry Joe. That being said while 60 bucks being spent I decided to give it a go. Its been a while since I’ve felt so overwhelmed with joy while a play a story driven game. The story while boring at first is excellent, and its great how the sub character Majima literally outshines the main character Kiryu, makes for some great balance tho.
The fighting mechanics are simple enough for anyone to pick this up but deep enough to keep you entertained throughout the entire game. Enemies for the most part are very varied depending on current situation in story and pose a challenge every now and then. I actually prefer it that way but thats just my preference and to each their own. Which comes to my favorite part of the game Yes the soundtrack to this game is ultra top tier, voice acting the best ive seen in a game yet check out the lieutenant Awano and sound effects are excellent.
You will just enjoy grating an enemies face against concrete or beating the hell out of them with all allotted weapons.

The engine is showing its age Repetitive at times Review Price: This is easily the largest and most ambitious Yakuza yet, encompassing a five act story across five unique and varied locations. Kazuma Kiryu makes his triumphant return, as do beloved regulars Shun Akiyama and Haruka Sawamura, the latter of which is playable for the first time in franchise history. Yakuza 5 is exclusive to PlayStation 3. The PlayStation 3 download version was used for this review. A copy of this game was purchased by the reviewer. The game is usually centered around one or more cities in Japan and you generally have free reign up to a point. To progress the main storyline, you can pull up the main map and you will see a pink circular indicator that shows you where you need to go for the next event in the story.
You can usually avoid progressing the story and roam around the city at will to do sub-quests and minigames.

Buy Sega’s backlog of Yakuza games that haven’t been given a global release is growing. Andria Sang reports that the latest issue of Famitsu has word of a new PlayStation3-exclusive Yakuza title. The game was revealed in an interview with series director Toshihiro Nagoshi, who wouldn’t confirm whether or not the title would be called Yakuza 5. Majima gets a rubdown in this scene from Yakuza 3. Sega West is playing catch-up with the series, as its recently confirmed Yakuza 4 will be released next spring.
Two more titles in the franchise–a PlayStation 3-exclusive feudal-era spin-off Ryu ga Gotoku Kenzan and a new PSP installment–have yet to be announced for launch outside Japan.
Majima’s transformation into the Mad Dog has left some fans scratching their heads who he truly is, and how he became an Ax-Crazy Heel by the time Yakuza 1 came around. One interpretation is that while he always had traces of it, Majima wasn’t completely crazy to begin with. But considering everything he was put through as Shimano’s Unwitting Pawn the entire time, which probably also broke him, not wanting to be restrained under anyone’s leash any longer, he decided to live life on his own merits and become crazier than the rest of them, having been inspired by both his enemies and allies alike.
I’ve seen a few guys who lived like idiots and they died like idiots. But that batshit crazy lifestyle I’d say it made ’em some of the finest bastards I’ve ever known. It’s not until the end that the restraints finally come off and he’s allowed to be who he really is, with The Stinger showing what he was hiding all along. There’s also the idea that this game depicts Majima as he truly is, a morally conscious and intelligent man, and the Mad Dog side we’ve seen for years is a persona he created to deal with the harsh reality of the yakuza lifestyle in his own way.
Although some contend it takes away from his crazy and comical antics in previous games as a retcon of sorts, it would also explain why his craziness was toned down starting from Yakuza 4 , being a capably sane leader when he needs to be and batshit crazy when he’s allowed to be. Even Dead Souls hinted he was much more than an unhinged lunatic , even if he didn’t like admitting as such.
Members of the localization team support this , suggesting that while Majima’s morality clashed with his desire to get back into the Tojo Clan, he didn’t actually “go crazy”; he decided to flip a switch after everything he saw and went through, first seen when he and Kiryu finally meet in the epilogue. They also speculate that something after left him a changed man in Yakuza 5 spoiler: In , his wife had an abortion without telling him, after which he struck her and left her.

Yakuza 5’s release date was mostly a mystery until just a couple days before it made a semi-surprise visit to the PSN after a cool release announcement two days prior to the release itself. There was no ceremony, no marketing — just a few day window between the release date announcement and the day it was meant to grace international PlayStation 3 consoles. Fans of the series, myself included, had been waiting a long time to see the fifth entry to the free-roaming sandbox yakuza drama.
Yakuza 5’s abrupt release was and still is a welcome surprise, but SEGA’s lack of marketing has done this series a great injustice. Here are two questions: Does anyone know this game is even out except the core fans? The answer to both of these questions is a very hard “No”. The series is like GTA and SR only in the fact you have a city map to free-roam and a plethora of side activities. The similarities end there: Yakuza is its own type of distinctly Japanese monster.
Like a 5-headed silly dragon The Yakuza series follows Kazuma Kiryu, a now former yakuza trying to keep his life together amidst some difficult circumstances, while repeatedly being drawn back into the Tojo Clan’s problems. This really sums the games’ stories up in a spoiler-free manner.

Digital PS3 version reviewed. The review has very little in the way of spoilers. Introduction Sega’s storied ‘Yakuza’ franchise has had quite a time getting into the hands of Western fans going all the way back to the later PS2 era, yet somehow, even if it sometimes takes years after the initial Japanese release, just about every mainline entry has eventually become playable in English.
Now that ‘Yakuza 0’ has been announced for PS4, however, ‘Yakuza 5’s release on the PS3 brings with it even more excitement than usual. Our Reviewer’s Take Getting ‘Yakuza 5’ almost feels like a triumphant moment, as it’s not only the most diverse game in the series to date, it might just be the best. The developer’s name might not hold the prestige it once did outside of Japan, but if any game serves as a reminder of just how great Sega can be when firing on all cylinders, it’s ‘Yakuza 5’.
Commonly perceived to be Japan’s answer to ‘Grand Theft Auto’, the games couldn’t be more different, and nothing exemplifies this quite like the narrative structure of it all. Yes, both franchises typically deal with protagonists who aren’t on wonderful terms with the law, but whereas ‘GTA’ often feels like a celebration of chaos, ‘Yakuza’ holds itself back in some surprising ways.
Some of the very first things you’ll do involve apologizing to a taxi company for breaking protocol at lead protagonist Kiryu’s driving job, then you’ll send money to an orphanage he runs and go out drinking with your boss to celebrate payday. As over the top as the series often gets, it never shies away from celebrating the mundane, and if any game makes ordinary life seem shockingly compelling, it’s this one. Kiryu’s work as a taxi driver, for example, isn’t just a plot device, but a fully fleshed out game in its own right, and one that actively punishes you for disobeying road laws.
A subgame where all you do is drive carefully and converse with customers sounds dreadully boring, but in Sega’s capable hands, it becomes a really compelling diversion that could easily last you hours. It’s not the most complicated combat system, and if you’ve played a previous game in the series, you’ll have a perfect idea of what to expect, but for those new to the series, it’s not terribly complicated.

There are plenty of others. Logic follows that this would be the best-looking Yakuza game. A Boy and His Mob Yakuza 0 delivers the best story the series has seen. While still guilty of using the same tropes as previous games, the instances of outright abusing said tropes to the point they go from being funny to being stupid is noticeably cut down. I can tolerate and even welcome that. While some plot twists and conclusions can naturally be predicted, others are welcome surprises leading up to a surprisingly memorable, satisfying ending.
Longtime series fans will enjoy seeing certain characters especially protagonists Kazuma Kiryu and Majima Goro in their younger days, as well as little touches and hints of how certain things in present-day Kamurocho came to be.
